The history of Ludwig Reiter began in 1885 with the opening of a shoemaker's workshop by Ludwig Reiter. Even in the early years, the company supplied the military, as the welted shoes were of exceptional quality. The founder's son, Ludwig Reiter II, emigrated to America where he learned the Goodyear process, a technique of making welted shoes using a sewing machine. The shoemaker's workshop transformed into an industrial shoe factory over the next few years and continued to expand. In 1919 a shop was opened in the Wiedner Hauptstraße in Vienna. In the 1920s and 1930s Ludwig Reiter developed into one of the leading shoe manufacturers in Vienna. Many of the shoe models produced at that time are still produced today. In the post-war period, the focus was increasingly placed on high-quality, welted shoes. To this day, Ludwig Reiter produces exceptional shoes that are welted.
